Whiplash
If you have been in an auto accident, you may consider
contacting our office to evaluate any trauma that may
have occurred. We treat a wide range of auto accident
injuries including whiplash, a common auto injury.
It is easy to sustain neck trauma is when one car collides
into the rear-end of another. The passenger in the front
automobile has their neck jerked back quickly resulting in
an injury we know as whiplash. Whiplash can include:
strained muscles and/or ligaments, and spinal joint
injuries. This kind of neck injury is often associated with
tension type headaches and head pain as a result of
cervical dysfunction.
Whiplash can also occur from sports injuries, slips and
falls or unexpected, rapid motions of the neck. When the
head is suddenly jerked either forward and back, back and
forward or side to side, the muscles, ligaments and other
soft tissues supporting the spine and head can be
overstretched or turn.
The soft, pulpy discs between spinal bones can bulge, tear
or rupture. Vertebrae can be forced out of their normal
position, reducing range of motion. The resulting
instability of the spine and soft tissues can result in
headaches, dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, ringing in the
ears, arm and shoulder pain, and tingling in the hands and
fingers.
As with any injury, it is important to get an evaluation
shortly thereafter to rule out any serious injury. In most
whiplash cases, injuries are surface ones to the tissue and
ligaments.
Dr. Lukonaitis at Silver Creek Chriroptactic, P.C. can
effectively evaluate the tissues that are at risk in a
whiplash type of injury including: bones, nerves, muscles,
tendons, ligaments, discs, blood supply and lymph supply.
Patients who begin treatment thirty or more days after an
accident can take up to three times longer to fully recover
from a whiplash injury than those who begin treatment
immediately.
